Doc.dr.sc. Ivona Čulo has been gaining experience in the most renowned media companies in Croatia since her student days. After starting out at Večernji list, she worked for eight years at Jutarnji list, and began her career at Adria Media Zagreb as editor-in-chief, then director of magazine editions, and then executive and general director. Her expertise in organizing and managing business was most evident when she served as general director of Adria Media Zagreb, which at that time had 14 magazines in its portfolio (including National Geographic, Elle, Elle Decoration, Cosmopolitan, Men’s Health, Story, StoryBook…) and a dozen web portals, transforming it from a classic publishing house into a multimedia company that adapts content to the wishes of users on various platforms. After her career at Adria Media Zagreb, since 2018 she has continued to work actively in the real sector, and is the owner of three companies - Black Carpet Consulting d.o.o., which focuses on personal public relations, MixerMedia d.o.o. (in her portfolio she has two websites - Mixer.hr and Popmix.hr) and MediaVerse d.o.o. which, in addition to producing content for children's magazines, has a license for the Croatian market of the most famous lifestyle magazine in the world - Elle.
In addition, she is an assistant professor of communication sciences and head of the Department of Communication, Media and Journalism at the University of Sjever, where she has been working on courses such as Web Design, Online Journalism, Business and Management in Media, and Creative Industries Management since 2012. Her narrower area of research interest is topics related to media and journalism in a digital environment, especially lifestyle journalism, media management, sustainable journalism, and personal public relations and image creation. She graduated from the Croatian language and literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, journalism at the Faculty of Political Sciences in Zagreb, the Magazine Brand Management Certificate (MBMC) in London, and the postgraduate university doctoral study in Media and Communication at the University of Sjever. She is the winner of the Influential Croatian Woman award, in the Leadership and Innovation category.
