Kaya Kamenarič holds a bachelor's degree in journalism and a master's degree in strategic marketing communications. She began gaining experience across various media outlets during her studies, she worked as an online journalist for Slovenia's biggest media company (24ur.com/POP TV), and later joined N1 Slovenia, a CNN exclusive news affiliate. She also explored the world of radio, working as both a journalist and an on-air host at Radio 1.

She is convinced that one of the key qualities every journalist should have is curiosity and she considers herself a very curious person. Her interest in other cultures and tourism is the reason she also became a licensed tourist guide at the Tourism and Hospitality Chamber of Slovenia. Because she believes that knowledge of other cultures offers a different perspective of the world, she decided on two study exchanges (in Ireland and the Netherlands) and later moved to Colorado, USA, where she spent some time working in tourism. Determined that all voices - especially those from difficult social environments - must be heard, she has more than a decade of volunteer experience with the association Zveza Anita Ogulin in ZPM, where she worked mostly with children and the youth. She strongly believes that knowledge is an endless pursuit, which is why she attends and participates in the organisation of various lectures, trainings and round tables.
