Dr. EVA VRTAČIČ

Eva Vrtačič is employed at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana. She teaches anthropology courses at the Department of Cultural Studies. She is also a member of the Research Center for Methodology and Informatics in the Department of Sociology. She is interested in various aspects of everyday life and popular culture, particularly how they are shaped by modern digital technologies.

She is a co-founder of the non-governmental organization "Danes je nov dan, Inštitut za druga vprašanja" (Today is a New Day, Institute for Other Studies) that utilizes digital technologies to develop innovative campaigns to increase participation in democratic processes. Danes je nov dan works and networks in the areas of responsible use of digital technologies and data justice, strengthening political participation and inclusion in decision-making processes, opening up public institutions and their data, and promoting solidarity and cooperation with civil society movements.

She considers herself an engaged anthropologist. Whether in the classroom with students or active in the civil society sphere, she frames her work within the struggle for a fairer society. She is an avid reader of fiction and theory, a viewer of television productions, and a listener of podcasts and interesting conversations. When she truly cannot avoid it, she contributes critical commentary to newspapers and magazines or gives lectures at marketing conferences.
